More than Quilting!
With all this beautiful fabric in the Fenwick Fabrics store, I am chomping at the bit to sew something! Add cute grandkids to the situation, and I’ve found my projects.
This weekend, with the kids and grandkids in for a visit, I had my plans in place. I took my daughters up to the studio so they could pick out fabric. We selected Philip Jacob’s Tree Fungi, and Kaffe Fassett’s Jupiter.
I had selected three or four patterns for children’s clothing (at Hancock’s going out of business sale – 75% off!!). I chose a cute pair of shorts with pockets for Nolan and he chose the Jupiter fabric. The shorts were very simple to make. From cutting out the pattern to finishing, it took me about four hours.
My second project was to make a sundress for our darling baby girl, Susie, who is 4 and half months old. It is hot and humid so I selected a simple A-line shift with facings. I could have used pre-made binding but it’s such a little dress, I only needed a few feet of facing strips so I cut it from the scraps. I finished the dress by whip stitching a cute baby-size puffball trim around the armholes and hemline. She looks so cute in her little sundress, and the blue Tree Fungi looks cheerful and fresh on Baby Susie.
These two garments came out beautifully! Nolan’s shorts are very roomy, but he’s growing like a weed, so that’s no worry. He does love his pockets and calls the shorts his “Jupiter shorts.” Susie is gaga-googoo over her dress. She told me so!
We all tend to focus on piecing and quilting, but there are many other great ways to put this beautiful fabric to use.
If you make something, send me a photo and tell me about it. I love to see how you use your Kaffe Fassett Collective fabrics.
